Careers Programme

The Careers programme at Southview School incorporates information, services and providers which are relevant to the specific physical, cognitive and communication needs of our students. With such a range of needs and abilities at Southview this guidance is very varied and relates to Day Centres, further education providers, residential schools and Colleges, work experience and supported employment.

The college offers timetabled lessons using the Talentino ‘Careers at every level’ programme.  All key stage 5 learners will meet with a careers advisor supplied by Essex County Council to provide guidance on next steps. The college also uses enterprise education to enhance learners understanding of how businesses work.  College enterprises have included, running a college café, making hanging baskets and personalised gifts.  Learners have the opportunity to make and sell goods within the school and at local events and shops and are currently hoping to branch out online.

Work experience and work exposure are offered, where appropriate, to leaners in KS4 and 5.  This is done by creating links with local employers and using the Ductu open doors program.  Learners also have the opportunity to take part in internal work experience around the school or within the onsite business.  The college provides learners the opportunity to listen to the experience of others in the work place with visitor talks.

We are always looking for employers to work with, if any employer is interested in providing a talk, workplace visit or work experience please click the link below (link to a form to express and interest) Gatesby requirement
